Terra Cotta Warriors
These drawings are part of a series of works created after several visits to the Terra Cotta Warriors of Xi'an, Shaanxi Province -- one of the cradles of Chinese civilization with a rich folk art tradition. These warriors were themselves works of art, created around 300 B.C.E. to depict an immortal army. Each of the thousands of figures has individual features, representing the many soldiers who were sacrificed then -- as they still are today.
